“The journey to making this project was special. My previous alias RootsWill is still a huge part of my life in regard to how much it gave me. It was the foundation I needed to finally transition into Abson. So to commemorate that journey, I decided to drop a new project for you guys called "Roots Till November". This EP gives you some insight into the inner workings of some of my previous releases. I hope you guys really enjoy what I have to offer with this one” - Abson.
“My introduction as RootsWill was a humble beginning. I remember being present for every show imaginable, looking for every opportunity I can to network and show my face. I think the best part about that journey was getting to know these different environments of artists and producers going after the same thing I'm going after which is success in the music industry. This letter represents a time in my life where I sacrificed a lot to be part of something special in music, whether it was a little thing or a big thing!”

ABSON AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Rudy Abson Jr. Louis (born on November 7, 1999) is an American rapper, and singer-songwriter from Orlando, FL. Inspired by genres such as hip-hop, R&B, pop, and gospel, Abson. decided to take his influences into his own musical career. Abson. gained more notoriety when he dropped his EP entitled “21” back in 2020. He followed it up with the sequel 22’s (2022) on his quest for more success. On the way to building his name, he won several awards including the Best New Artist Award at Fusion Showcase in 2021 as well as the Raw Stars Award for best song that same year (Melt on this Music). Some of his most popular tracks include “Stuck on You” and “What U Tryna Do”.
EARLY LIFE
Rudy Abson Jr. Louis was born on November 7th, 1999, in Orlando, FL. His father, Abson Louis, is a Baptist Haitian who worked as a computer technician. His mother, Suze “Suzelande” Saint-Jean, is a 7-Day Adventist Haitian, who works at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. While Louis moved to Florida when he was 14, Saint Jean did not come till was 21 which was around the time they met. In addition to going to both churches in his youth, he attended Christian school. They also had two other children, Joanna Louis (born on November 13, 2000), and Chelsea Louis (born on April 21, 2007).
Abson’s parents divorced when he was around 5 years old. After the divorce, he, his sisters, and his mother started moving around the Orlando area. Louis still resided in Florida, being in and out of Abson’s day-to-day life. Occasional meetups on Sundays with Abson, Joanna, and Chelsea would occur. His parents often got back together and then separated. This would cause a rift in the relationship between Louis and his relationships with Abson., Joanna, and Chelsea. Abson credits his father as the man who put them on to secular music as opposed to all the gospel he heard growing up.
Abson. lived in several apartments and neighborhoods, when he recollects living in his grandmother's house during his preschool years, then living in the Ridge Club Apartments for a short stint, transitioning to the Fountains, and then to the Villages while attending South Orlando Christian Academy from pre-K to fourth grade. By his last year in elementary school, he had already been transferred to two schools, Metro West Elementary, and Treadway Elementary due to consistently moving from place to place. He attended South Creek Elementary (also residing within the area) for the sixth grade but then ended up returning to South Orlando Christian Academy for seventh and eighth grade. He went to Oak Ridge High School for all four years being an honors student in one of the business programs at the school, JA Academy. He graduated in 2018.
He attended Seminole State College and had advice from his parents to get a medical degree. while he did get his AA degree, he didn’t continue to pursue school due to his musical aspirations. As of now, he decided not to continue with school and pursue his musical career. He received his diploma from Seminole State in early 2021.
INFLUENCES
From an early age, his dad would play home music from the likes of Eminem, Janet Jackson, *NSYNC, and Mariah Carey, which helped the influence. Back in 2011, he watched the competition show The X Factor where he was introduced to hip-hop music by a young rapper Stro The MC formerly known as “The Astronomical Kid” which helped him gain a newfound interest in all hip-hop. From there his hip-hop palette became prominent. He started listening to T.I, Andre 3000, and Eminem, as early influences for his hip-hop sound. Then he was introduced to AZ’s Doe or Die album, which changed his perspective on hip-hop completely. Always being into conscious messages in rap, he took influence from Moore rappers, including Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Elzhi, Skyzoo, MF DOOM, Immortal Technique, Rass Kass, Eminem, and plenty more artists that showcase the reality of what’s going on. He also enjoys artists like Drake who can do combinations of rapping and singing.
As far as singing influences go Usher, Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, Brandy, Michael Jackson, Ginuwine, Jon B, and several more are catalyst in his singing style, as well as his favorite producers being Timbaland, DJ Premier, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Statik Selektah due to his love of soulful production, as well as his love for R&B music. The new artists that Abson enjoys including Brent Faiyaz, Chloe x Halle, Summer Walker, 6lack, H.E.R., JID, Ella Mai, and many more.
CAREER
2010–2017: THE BEGINNINGS
Abson’s journey began in church at around 10 years old singing in the choir at Beracah II French SDA Church. Being a shy kid, Abson. would always stand on the sideline but also loved the craft of singing. He was also a part of the choir in his school as well during his South Orlando Christian Academy days. The school made an appearance on Telemundo back in 2013 to sing Christmas songs. He would finally stand on his own in 2014 and sing the national anthem in front of his church, which gave him the confidence to sing more solos. The more his confidence grew, the more his musical palette grew. He sang the national anthem at his eighth-grade graduation from South Orlando Christian Academy to the approval of the audience. In the summer of 2016, Louis began writing his first song under the moniker RootsWill and decided to continue and show it throughout the school in his junior year. On January 1st, 2017, he dropped his first singing track entitled “Something Real” featuring a fellow artist by the name Crazy A. From there, he kept creating music, which led to his first rap song called “Aaliyah Tribute” on August 25, 2017. In the same year, he performed at his first talent show with a lot of shocked and pleased faces after the show. This gave him the ultimate confidence to push for a music career. He would drop many singles he would promote throughout the school. Other singles included Superstardom with Young Simba, Heartbreak 101, and several other songs to build his style.
2018–2022: 21 EP
Abson. put immense pressure on himself to create his first project. In 2018, Abson. teamed up with producer Jaffé Joffer to create several singles in that period which included “I’m Just Sayin” featuring Tia & Queen Yazz, “My Muse” (not produced by Jaffé), and “Blame It on Stro” which was a tribute to his favorite artist at the time “Stro The MC''. The breakout song between Abson. and Jaffé became “Stuck on You”, which helped him gain more notoriety in music garnering thousands of plays on Apple Music. Abson. sites this as the moment “he saw a shift in his style and more notoriety to his career.” He ended up dropping his project called “21 EP” on May 12, 2020, entirely produced by Jaffé Joffer which included both the single “Stuck on You” and “What U Tryna Do” feat. Len Da G. The project contained 4 tracks about personal topics and fun as Abson. described. It had a modern feel with a 00’s vibe due to Abson's influences. From there, his first official music video for the song “What U Tryna Do'' garnered nearly 10 thousand views in 2 months with it having over 15 thousand views since its release back on September 4th, 2020. His follow-up video “Stuck on You” achieved moderate success garnering over a thousand views.
PUSHING FOR SUCCESS
In addition to working on that project, Abson. ended up dropping more singles. On January 1st, 2021, teamed up with Trll Kennedy and Armani to drop a song called “Makes No Difference”. He also dropped a song with producer/artist Skyler. called “ON MY BLOCK” which was an ode to the Netflix show of the same name. In addition to the singles, he won “Best New Artist” on October 15, 2021. He also won “Best Song” on November 7th, 2021, for his performance with Melt on This Music.
2022-2023: 22 EP
2022 proved to be another busy year for Abson. He was on several collaborations: “Gimme Your Lovin” with singer Caleb Bashioum, and “Movin On” with Nino Nyce just to name a few. On July 3rd, 2022, Abson. dropped the second project “22’s EP” as a continuation of his first project 21. This time, he was assisted by FREEDOLO & Aundrae Black as executive producers as well as other productions Jaffé Joffer, Edwin Mlayi, Eric Sisco, and Armani. The features included artists such as Brittany Bae, LaUnI, and Len Da G. When speaking on the project Abson. states “I wanted to give the people a little more experimentation. Showcase what I can do with my vocal abilities and mix it with rapping and climbing the ladder of versatility.” From there, Abson. dropped his latest video for his track Don’t Take Away shot by long video collaborator Myndz, gaining thousands of views. Abson. also made an appearance on 96.1 FM multiple times to discuss more of music, getting his award-winning song Girlfriends on the radio for the 1st time on April 21st, 2022, as well as later in the year on September 1st. A plethora of performances in sued, starting with WTF to start off the new year, a shamrock in February, We Got All The Sawce in March, and both My City Mondays and the O-Town Showcase. On October 14, he dropped his highly anticipated single I Need Ya with FREEDOLO which brought him to over eleven thousand streams worldwide. On November 30th, he received an award for best cover art at the Fusion awards, winning it for his latest project 22’s.
2023 - PRESENT: MANAGEMENT
At the start of 2023, he signed under the management of Aundrae Black, a business owner of MZO Worldwide as well as a musical artist from DC. Since 2021, Abson. has been a brand ambassador for the company, so it was a smooth transition from being an ambassador to also being managed. They describe each other as people that “see each other’s vision”. Regarding their relationship Abson. states:
“Aundrae has been through the same things that I’ve been through in regard to promoting himself around the city and not getting the recognition that was deserved from it. So, it was only a matter of time before we would work together for a common cause of building an empire.”
Already previously working together, sparingly on the 22’s project and several of the singles, they teamed up for the release of the single Don’t Bother produced by FREEDOLO. Also, the partnership spawned several giveaways, which included free jackets, and several interviews which included the Nahhhthatscrazy interview back in late February or early March, and the radio interview with 101.1 the fam. Together, Aundrae and Abson also dropped a performance video of his single Don’t Bother that garnered 55K views. As of April 2023, Abson announced that he will be dropping his highly anticipated project 2-3, an add-on to his 20’s series. Some things he says about the project include:
“This project is more energy-based. I want to showcase a different side that people aren’t expecting each time. The project is an ode to my love of basketball, my love for hip-hop, and my love of rapping. My confidence is at an all-time high.”
Abson. is currently sitting on a comfortable margin of 26,523 plays from Spotify and Apple Music. He continues to increase more day by day.
In the summer of 2023, Abson shot a music video for his upcoming single “Beautiful” directed by Aundrae Black and shot by Shaun. This will be on his upcoming project “2-3” which will be released later this year. On June 17, Abson had his first-ever merchandise shoot under the MZO Worldwide imprint. When asked about the shoot, he had this to say.
“It’s been a long time coming. Looking to capture the essence of the brand for the world to see. Rocking hoodies and T-shirts are always the go-to in my book and I believe other people feel the same way!”
To add to the repertoire, in a collaboration with Aundrae Black of MZO Worldwide and Simba Castino of Free Yourself, he threw his first-ever headlining show called “The Abson Experience” to go along with his new project 2-3 being released on October 15! When looking back at this experience, he says:
“What Aundrae and I were trying to create was the picture of what I went through throughout this entire year! A lot of good times, and a lot of bad times, mixed with a lot of realization. On top of that, we always look to launch other artists into the stratosphere and bring the community together, which was the ultimate goal in throwing my first headlining show.”
To end the year, Abson looks to shoot his highly anticipated music video for his single “Beast Boiii” in December!
