AMBER BLACKWELL

My name is Amber Blackwell and I am an advocate for Wellness and holistically being well. I have worked my way up through the educational hierarchy the past 11 years having been a 1-1 behavior interventionist, teachers aide, substitute, credentialed Physical Education teacher and now in Educational leadership as a Dean of Culture for The Accelerated Schools k-8. I am currently pursuing my Master's is School Counseling at The USC. I am also the founder of an up and coming Non-profit, the Givego Foundation which has a mission to create equity for underserved youth. My Long term dream is to impact education reform by creating new schools that will intentionally bridge equity gaps, focusing on multicultural competency.

Mental health does not discriminate against age. Youth are affected by mental health issues just as adults are. What makes it even worse for them, their brains aren't fully developed to process the emotions and things they go through. That's why they act out, don't communicate well, or when they get older ditch classes and become disengaged. From a young age we need to be taught the importance of mental health, coping skills and finding your positive outlet. Adults need to also validate children's feelings and listen to the ways they are telling us they feel. Kids do something wrong and we are quick to want to discipline often before we even ask if they are ok, if they have some outside thing from home that has affected them and or are they dealing with navigating puberty, relationships etc. Kids deal with life's stressors just as adults do and we should have less division of the young vs the old, the adult vs the child and come together to support all human beings. I have a personal trainer certification as well as a nutrition specialist certification. I love to empower people along their journey towards their own wellness and I do this through fitness training and nutritional coaching. I also love to do endurance races like marathons and triathlons as a part of my own wellness journey to be an example to others of the positive impact movement can have on your well-being. I am a former collegiate athlete and have used exercise as my outlet my entire life to support my mental health. Learn More
