ONE EYED CAPTURE
SPOTLIGHT ARTIST OF THE WEEK
BEHIND THE LENS
My Name is Lawston Roderick, I’m from Orlando Florida born and raised. I began my camera journey at a very young age, helping my mother with photos of clothing she crocheted with an old digital camera. At that time I also was taking pictures of my sister right outside our house with just her cellphone or our mother’s digital camera. They realized I had a set skill in photography at such a young age. I didn’t get started in a serious phase until 2018 after I decided I didn’t find the college experience to my liking and just what I picked to go to college for, I felt like I had too much creativity to sit and be invested in college, it just didn’t feel right. I didn’t continue to college anymore all in the same year, I went ahead and purchased my first camera. my first camera was a Canon T6 Rebel which was affordable at my start. My girlfriend helped the next day to break my photo skills in with the new camera at a park in Orlando. I started getting better and better as months went by and ended up switching to a Sony camera reasoning of watching YouTube videos of Manny Ortiz.
I began working my way up with models and going to events going into 2020, even went to locations such as parks, playgrounds, or just downtown Orlando because of the creativity instinct I have. I started to develop new skills along the way even videos. I’ve done multiple cool creative projects with models, and also MZO especially the magazine. I became very well-known for editing in Lightroom because of Many Ortiz and how he edits his photos as months Went by, but I was finding new photographers I saw on YouTube I started watching as well. I developed my photography brand One Eyed Capture, and I always went by One Eye as a nickname. One Eyed Capture was timely thought of when created. Have done many sessions of all types of photoshoots such as kids, families, businesses, products, homes, graduates, and more. I have mastered many skills in photography including in Photoshop. I feel like I was born to conquer photography in my way. Fashion projects are my favorite time of photoshoots as of 2023.
INTERVIEW
How did you become interested in photography?
Remembering I was very good at it as a child, when my mother and sister wanted to pictures using the camera my mother had bought. They realized how good I was at taking pictures at such a young age.
How long have you been a photographer?
Approximately 5 years.
What first drew you to photographing people?
Seeing the final results, once taking the photo. Then move onward to editing, it IS very rewarding to see the SELF-WORK done in THE final result.
How do you make the clients feel relaxed in front of your camera?
I have a calm approach to anyone and everyone. I ask normal questions to get them going and to talk more instead of jumping straight to it. I talked as if we had friends for such a long time during the photo session.
What are some tips/advice you would give to someone just starting in photography?
Have a favorite photographer to look up to, and always view other photographers on YouTube because you simply learn something new every single time.
